VOTU WINDS
The First Offshore Wind Farm in Espirito Santo
Since 2016 VOTU Winds believes in Espírito Santo's potential for the development of OFFSHORE wind energy.
VOTU Winds is developing the first offshore wind farm in the state with an installed capacity of 1.5 GW.
A WORLD-CLASS PROJECT
1500 MW installed capacity
Annuel generation of 7,5 TWh
Equivalent consumption of 2.300.000 families
100 wind turbines de 15 MW, 3 substations
Production of alternative green fuels
2 years construction, 30 years of operations
1.500 direct jobs during construction
The VOTU Winds Project development is an innovative initiative for the Brazilian wind energy matrix. Consisting of two offshore wind farms, it aims to harness Brazil's great wind potential.
Being an offshore installation, relatively close to the coast, the project combines the benefits of the best wind regimes with short connection distances to the national electricity grid.
VOTU Winds is located in the south-east of Brazil, in the state of Espírito Santo, This means its large generation capacity is close to the nation's main industrial and domestic energy markets. As an offshore project, it comprises a relatively long and highly innovative production and supply chain, which requires significant investments, generates high value-added jobs, pays municipal, state and federal taxes, uses a renewable energy source, employs state-of-the-art technology and minimises the project's footprint.
WHY OFFSHORE
Offshore electricity generation utilises the best wind patterns on the earth's surface. At a distance of 20 kilometres from the coast, winds occur more regularly and with greater intensity. Offshore wind power also allows for the installation of much larger wind turbines, substantially increasing efficiency and power compared to land farms.
WHY IN ESPÍRITO SANTO
The State of Espírito Santo offers the best regional conditions for the installation of offshore wind farms. Wind regimes and sea conditions in general are the most favorable of the southeastern region. Furthermore, the excellent port logistics and the proximity of major industrial centers guarantee the future of the project.
Espírito Santos is also home of major industrial players that in the near future will require a secure, high-power supply of clean energy and low-impact fuels to decarbonize their processes and operations. VOTU Winds plans to participate in making this dynamic Brazilian state more sustainable and ready for the energy transition.
THE BENEFITS
VOTU Winds will use the most modern construction techniques to minimise the impact on the environment during the installation of its offshore wind farms. Particular attention will be paid to marine fauna. The visual impact of the wind farms will be insignificant due to the distance to the coast of Espírito Santo.
On land, the impact will also be minimal. The electrical cables will reach the coast of Espírito Santo underground and connect directly to an onshore substation that will prepare the energy produced at the offshore farms for its distribution to the high-voltage grid.
The social and economic benefits of a project like VOTU Winds are numerous as it will stimulate development at local and regional level. During the construction of the offshore wind farms, the project is expected to generate around 1,500 direct jobs. The project will contribute to the economy of the region's municipalities for more than 30 years. At state level, the project is an indispensable component for Espírito Santo's entry into the green economy.
Among VOTU Winds' commitments is the professionalisation of the workforce for the operation and maintenance of the wind farms, including specific training to be made available to the local communities. At the same time, VOTU Winds' aim is to integrate local companies into the project, thereby boosting the local economy in a sustainable way.
